AC DEB MEMORIAL INTER-SCHOOL ENGLISH DEBATE COMPETITION - 2023

Amidst the tranquil beauty of the Doon valley, the Raja Rammohan Roy Academy once again hosted the prestigious AC Deb Memorial Inter- School Debate Competition, an event that is a testament to intellectual prowess and articulate discourse. This annual affair, dedicated to the memory of the school's visionary founder, Late Mr. AC Deb, brought together a total of 12 teams - 8 from within the station and 4 from outstations – in a riveting display of rhetorical brilliance.

The event commenced on a note of warm welcome, with the Officiating Principal, Ms. Bharti Vishnoi, extending her greetings and felicitations to the esteemed Chief Guest, Ms. Minnie Tripathi, and the distinguished panel of judges. Ms. Tripathi, a beacon of knowledge and experience in her own right, graced the occasion with her presence, embodying the spirit of encouragement and inspiration for the young debaters.

The judging panel comprised luminaries from the educational realm - Ms. Veena Kalia, the Academic Director at Doon World School and an ISC inspector; Ms. Meena Rawat, an eminent educator and the founder of the 'Prayatan Society for Social Upliftment'; and the illustrious Ms. Swarleen Kaur, a celebrated personality with numerous accolades, including a nomination for the Padma Shri in 2023. Their collective expertise and discerning eye ensured a fair evaluation of the participants' arguments and rhetorical finesse.

The young debaters vociferously put across their views on the topic ‘Environmental Degradation is an inevitable consequence of the improvement in the standard of living’ as the hall resonated with impassioned exchange of ideas, with each team articulating their views with eloquence and conviction. Riding on a scintillating performance, Cambridge School, Indirapuram stood the Runners Up team, but it was the brilliance of Doon International School, Dehradun that set them apart from others. They were adjudged the Winners and took home the AC Deb Memorial Debate Rolling Trophy for the year 2023. Individual excellence was also celebrated, with Miss Tanvi Bahuguna of Doon International School earning accolades as the best speaker and Miss Lavya Pant of Cambridge school Indirapuram being adjudged the second best. Their eloquence and analytical skills captivated the audience and the judges alike.

Throughout the event, Miss Riddhi Gurung and Miss Ishita Bist, the debate Chairpersons, efficiently steered the proceedings, ensuring smooth and engaging debates. Miss Tanisha Gulati and Mr. Saransh Vats impeccably maintained records, contributing to the seamless execution of the event. The Master of Ceremonies, Miss Shambhavi Bisht, skillfully navigated the program, keeping the audience engaged and the event's energy high.

Post the exhilarating debates, the judges and the esteemed Chief Guest shared their perspectives, commending the participants for their depth of knowledge, articulation, and presentation skills. Their words of encouragement resonated, inspiring the budding orators and debaters to further hone their skills.

The event not only celebrated the art of debating but also paid homage to Mr. AC Deb, whose vision and dedication led to the establishment of the school. His legacy lives on through this prestigious event, nurturing the spirit of critical thinking and eloquence among the students.

The AC Deb Memorial Inter-School Debate Competition 2023 proved to be a resounding success, fostering intellectual growth, and a culture of articulate expression and logical argumentation among the participating teams.
