Awareness Programme on Plastic Waste

Morning assembly is the time in Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy when students learn many things beyond their prescribed syllabi and they are made aware of all the issues prevalent in the society. On 2nd May 2024, students were made aware of the most dominant problem of the world “PLASTIC”. Plastic waste is a major environmental problem. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans, landfills and everywhere on this beautiful planet. It not only causes harm to human beings but killing all the creatures in this planet. The toxic release from this plastic is consuming our Natural Flora and Fauna. To protect our Earth from this giant some initiatives are being taken called “ Plastic Waste Management.” Plastic waste management is the collection, processing, and disposal of plastic waste. It is a complex issue that involves a variety of stakeholders, including governments, NGO’s, businesses, and individuals. In our school we had two important guests to talk about Plastic Waste Management, Mr. Dinesh Chandra and Mr. Praveen Upreti, who are working as Environmentalists in “Social Development for Community”. The Founder of SDC is Mr. Anoop Nautiyal. This Foundation is working on Plastic Waste management by spreading its awareness in schools, colleges and universities. They encourage people through jingles, posters , street plays, short films, power point presentations to foster awareness. While addressing our students Mr. Chandra emphasised on four R’s: Refuse/Reduce/ Reuse and Recycle. They have also placed their special bins in the school premises and students were asked to use those bins for plastic trash, so that it can be collected by their team only in order to reuse or recycle it. Their initiative has been appreciated by the school authorities.
